Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) |
Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a non-invasive, "cold" laser which, when applied to the body is painless and sterile. It is deeply affective in treating acute and chronic pain, tissue repair, wound healing and clot formation. In addition, it has been found to reduce inflammation, increase blood supply, speed tissue repair and help generate healthy new cells. Since the development of the laser, it has been used therapeutically. More recent advancements in laser technology have allowed the use of very precise wavelengths that can be directed to specific areas of the body. Precise doses of light can be fine-tuned to match the needs of the individual. During treatment, most people notice nothing; no burning or sensation at all. A small percentage of people have noticed a slight tingling sensation or a warmth. For more chronic conditions, usually several sessions are required.
Difference Between Lasers, LED & SLD light devices. Some manufacturers produce devices with super-luminous diodes (SLD) or light emitting diodes (LED). Monochromatic non-coherent light can be helpful for superficial wound healing, however numerous studies have shown that lasers are far more effective because of their unique properties and penetration depth. Many super luminous & light emitting diodes products are usually very low powered (typically 5mW - 15mW), and much of this energy is scattered, therefore requiring longer treatment times. The chart below shows how typical light penetrates the skin. LED's will normally penetrate less that 1cm. But Lasers at 830 nm can penetrate 5 cm. Far more effective than SLD's or LED's.
Benefits of LLLT to Users
Applications of LLLTAccording to published Medical Reports, many acute and chronic conditions may be improved or eliminated with laser use including the following:
